Black crime and poverty has been decreasing steadily for years, and more of them are going to university. They're actually one of the better ethnic groups to run into in many parts of Canada, I've lived in several areas where they are very quiet, kind and love peace. Many of my friends experience the same.

Even after the Civil Rights Act many people were not used to treating black people equally. Even in the '90s in Canada, many people's resume got thrown out for having a black or foreign name, there are many ways to legally bypass these anti-discrimination laws (and finding a place to rent isn't as easy either for them, as many landlords don't trust them as much as other races). To give you a picture, it was only in the year 2000 when Alabama legalized interracial marriage and race-mixing finally became legal in every US state. Most importantly though, the economic damage caused by racist policies cannot be lifted so quickly. Again, their situation is improving, but it will take several generations. Unlike countries like Denmark, the rate of poor people rising out of poverty is much lower in the US.

They aren't Russian citizens, and companies use them as cheap labor without signing employment contracts, these people aren't protected by law. They are being paid less, they are being fined on top of that. They work 12 hours a day 30 days a month for smaller money. They don't have any social guaranties from their employer - no paid sick leave, no paid vacations - employer doesn't have to pay that, and employer doesn't have to pay to government for pensions and medical care too. Unfortunately, Russian laws are flawed, and opportunities in their home country are even worse, and these people are glad to work like that and be able to send money home.

These people might have poor Russian and be targeted with xenophobia. For example, on my previous job I heard some people calling these workers monkeys.

By the way, I don't know what French laws are, the warehouse I worked at and observed these working conditions for migrants was French (FM Logistic), and we had actual French people in charge sitting in the office in the same building with us. With my opinion of France being high, I wish they brought best practices with them to Russia and didn't exploit cheap labor, but I guess it's a naive thing to think, and capitalists everywhere do everything possible to pay less and get more, especially when the government lets them.
