71469 В конец треда | ВебThis is a picture of my Polish great-great grandfather as a sergeant in the Russian Imperial Army, he's on the left. This picture was taken 1903 or 1904. He went on to fight in the Russo-Japanese war and by the time WWI came around he was an officer. After the WWI he fought the commies for a bit and after the Whites lost the far he came to America. He was supposedly a violent alcoholic and he had multiple affairs with Anglo and German women. R8 him

Almost all relatives on his line fled to America from the Communists, and communication with them was lost.

Why did he not return to independent (for a time being) Poland though. It looks like he was an opportunisr rather than true pole.

He did, briefly for a year. His family was from the borderlands, in the Brest-area. When he got back after the war, he found that the commies destroyed the family farm during their retreat. That, combined with the fact most of his family had already left for the US or Canada and had been writing him letters, drove him to leave. That's what my family has gathered from his writings and stories that have been passed down.
